Ready Steady Blackbrook!

Ready Steady Blackbrook!

At our Blackbrook House residence in St Helens, one of our young people recently showed off his skills in the kitchen by cooking a three-course meal alongside the deputy manager, which would be served to our hard-working staff.

Our young person has always had a keen interest in cooking, so took it upon himself to take on the challenge. The meal was as follows:

  • Starter: Black pudding, pea purée, chilli infused reduced balsamic and scallops
  • Main: Minted lamb rack, dauphinoise potatoes, asparagus, string beans, and carrots topped with a sherry rue (our young person fancied a drink of the sherry, but he is not quite old enough for that yet!)
  • Dessert: Crème brûlée, sliced strawberries and kiwi coated in icing sugar and a side of whipped lemon cream

Sounds delicious doesn’t it? Well it was exactly that and we’ve got the pictures to prove it.

Our young person excelled so much, that if you had been served the dishes, you would be forgiven for thinking you had stepped into a gourmet restaurant, not our humble abode. It went so well that he wants to keep doing this every month – any opportunity for him to show off! I’m sure our staff wouldn’t say no to a three-course meal either.

In his own words: our young person on the experience

“This was a fun experience as it allowed me and the deputy manager to interact with each other about which foods we enjoy and which foods we should cook next. We are hoping to do this every month! We all enjoyed the meal, although the staff were a little hyper afterwards, as they’d just had a lot of sugar!”

Watch this space for more stories of our young people exploring their talents, as they begin to discover themselves and the incredible things that they’re capable of.
