Being a Registered Manager at Pebbles Care: Insights from Sarah Hutchinson

We caught up with Sarah Hutchinson, one of our valued Registered Managers, to ask her a few questions about her role at Pebbles Care. Sarah shared some inspiring insights about leading Cara House, a two-bed home in West Yorkshire, that we are delighted to share with you.

What is your background, and how did you become a Registered Manager as part of our family?

Ah, well, my journey to becoming a Registered Manager at Pebbles has been quite the adventure around every aspect of young people’s work around Leeds! With a background in youth work, sexual health, CSE development work, gangs and county lines work, I stumbled into the world of care being a Registered Manager for another company and never looked back. After years of freelancing and working with various agencies in Leeds, about three years ago, I found my way to Pebbles. I’m all about positivity, creativity, and being the bubbly, arty person I am to make a house feel like a home. Now, I’m proud to be the Registered Manager at Cara House, where I get to bring my passion for making it feel like a real family home.

What is the most rewarding aspect of managing one of our family-style children’s homes for you?

It’s a bit like orchestrating a beautiful symphony! From morning meetings and planning the day to checking in with the team and supporting the young people, no two days are ever the same, and who knows what’s going to happen. Some days are juggling the curve balls that get thrown at you, but one thing’s for sure, there’s always plenty of laughter, love, and a dash of circus skill juggling throughout the day. But amidst all that, there’s always time for a good laugh and some creative problem-solving. It’s all about keeping the home running smoothly while making sure every child feels cared for and valued.

Who forms your team, and what do you like about working with them?

They’re absolute gems! A strong, long-standing bunch who treat Cara House like their own family home. I couldn’t ask for a better group to work alongside. Their dedication, passion, and endless support make every day a joy. I love working with them because they share my ethos of making sure every child feels loved and supported.

How does a typical day as Registered Manager at Pebbles look?

Oh, where do I start? It’s all about creating that warm, nurturing environment where every child feels like they’re part of the family. Seeing them grow, thrive, and blossom under our care is truly heartwarming. Knowing that we’re creating a safe, supportive environment for these young people, where they can thrive and grow is what keeps me going.

Do you feel supported in your role as a leader?

Absolutely! The Pebbles family has my back 100%. Whether it’s through ongoing training, mentorship, or just a shoulder to lean on, I know I can always count on my team and the wider Pebbles community for support.
