Over the Christmas period at Pebbles, we held a Christmas card design competition with young people and staff. The winner was one of our extraordinary young people with an elegant drawing of a deer. This wonderfully artful, well-considered and executed design truly captured the grace of Christmas.
The card was printed with some help from friends, along with some gift tags, and were advertised for sale within the business. Our young person decided that she wanted the profits to go to a dog rescue called Friends of Milena’s unwanted dogs of Aleksinac, Serbia, where they are struggling to feed and shelter many homeless dogs. Fundraising is so important to keep the charity going, and our young person’s contribution will make a significant difference to finding these dogs their forever homes.
The money raised from the cards and gift tags totalled £248.74, of which the majority was sent to the charity. The charity was blown away by the thoughtfulness and kindness behind our young person’s initiative and really highlighted this as they took to social media to show their appreciation.
Our young person also sent £65.00 of the money raised to a local kennel, which was used to purchase food for their dogs.
It just goes to show that, despite what our young people have been through, they each have a heart of gold. This generous act makes everyone at Pebbles proud of the work we do, helping to nurture and develop the young people in our care to truly flourish and make their own mark.
