Why we’re different

Pebbles Care has over 17 years of experience in supporting some of the most vulnerable young people across the UK.

Born from a practice of innovation, dedication and excellence, Pebbles has grown into a national service with 44 residencies and two schools that continue to meet the needs of young people; to nurture them, help their development and give them every opportunity to flourish.

Pebbles is unique in that it can offer young people the care they require, in real loving family-led homes, with real schools that operate with an ethos of relational practice that facilitates the progress young people need.

A therapeutic, trauma-informed practice rounds off this unique service, which is a fundamental difference in how Pebbles operate.

Pebbles aim to support individuals to make better sense of how their past experiences impact on their current behaviours. In doing so, Pebbles’ caring, and dedicated teams can support them in developing new ways of living and learning.

The evidence is compelling in terms of what can happen if the therapeutic care, such as that provided by Pebbles is missing in these young people’s lives.

The origins of our care

Our journey began in 2003 when company director Luiz Guilherme opened Pebbles House in Withernsea, which supported four young people.

After commendation from our regulators in recognition of the positive work being achieved with the young people, the organisation began to grow in the Yorkshire area and the first Pebbles school opened in Leeds to offer both a living and learning solution for local authorities, in support of vulnerable young people in their constituency.

In September 2009, the Cumbria and Lancashire based service Partners in Care was brought into the Pebbles family, and in May 2010 the Scotland based provider Radical Services joined the team to promote our message in Scotland.

With the further acquisitions of Prospect Care Homes, Crossway Children Services and Forth Craig, the Pebbles portfolio has grown in line with the needs and demands of local authorities and their young people. The Pebbles team has continued to grow, evolve and adapt to the emerging needs of young people who require significant support.

Deep purpose and passion

In order to give our young people as high a quality of life as possible, we must look to our line of deep and innovative therapies, which have been in high demand for a long time. They are in line with our progressive Clinical Psychology model, including Farm Living Therapy and a pioneering ‘trauma-informed’ model, which empowers young people to confront the trauma of failed attachment and affiliated mental health considerations.

We have earned a reputation for our passionate approach to our work, and are best equipped to support those with social, emotional and behavioural difficulties, as well as mental health concerns.

We have significantly invested in empowering our staff to make a difference for young people, ensuring we can meet and exceed our own high standards of self-improvement.

Our practice centres on a trauma-informed approach which continues to be significant in equipping young people to develop a resilience and flourish in future living.

Each of our staff live and breathe care – this is our lifestyle and we strive to provide our young people with the type of care that meets their physiological needs, a space where they can feel safe and loved, where they can feel a sense of accomplishment, and where the opportunity to achieve their full potential is realised.

We treat each young person as an individual and respond directly to their level of need, and will continue to deliver a living and learning experience that gives them every opportunity to thrive now and into the future. Our schools offer a personalised learning experience and small class groupings that support pupils with significant barriers to their learning, giving each young person extra attention and priority when advancing with their studies.
