Gartons House is a single occupancy home, where the main aim of the dedicated team is to replicate a clean, homely environment with a supportive family feel. On arriving at the property there is a parking on the street at the front of the house with a small front garden, there is also a large paved back garden that has a small area of grass and a small storage shed.
On the ground floor there is a large entrance hallway, a lounge, which is recently been decorated and feels nice and cosy with a large bay fronted window that allows a bright and airy feel to the house. The recently fitted new kitchen/dining space is modern and bright due to the large patio doors at the rear of the house overlooking the grass area of the garden. The second floor has 2 bedrooms and an office, one of the bedrooms is used by staff and there is a bathroom with both bath and shower available.
Each young person has their own bedroom which they can decorate how they like giving them their own privacy and quiet space to do schoolwork. The young people are encouraged to take responsibility for this space in order to maintain their privacy. We always aim to ensure that our house reflects that of family home where young people feel safe, relaxed and cared for in a non-institutionalised setting. All the children are encouraged to bring their own opinions about how their bedroom should look and fill it with their own possessions as much as possible.
The staff team ensure high standards are maintained in the environment of the home and that each child is encouraged to take part in household duties to help build their independence and respect for their home. All our children are involved with food preparation and menu choices and take part in the weekly shopping during school holidays.
