Murraythwaite provides placement for two young people.
The highly experienced Manager and care team have supported young people to address trauma and adversity through establishing nurturing and caring relationships, building resilience and supporting young people to recognise and self-manage risk safely with the aim of young people returning to their home communities.
“We observed positive relationships between staff and young people with lots of fun and laughter. “We observed a homely setting in which young people were encouraged to be healthy and active. “Staff also promoted self- travel for young people to college and training courses. This promoted young people’s independence and self-esteem.” (Care Inspector November 2018)
Murraythwaite is a detached two-bedroom property situated near the small village of Dalton, near Dumfries.
We aim to ensure that our house reflects that of a family home where young people feel safe, relaxed and cared for in a non-institutionalised setting.
The house has a fitted kitchen with adjoining utility room, dining room, games room and lounge. Upstairs there are two single bedrooms for young people, all which have an en-suite. In addition to this, there is an office for members of staff.
Each young person’s bedroom is warm and bright and we encourage all those who come and live with us to bring their own personal possessions to make their bedroom feel like their own. We do provide a TV and CD/radio in each bedroom, and we also encourage young people who stay with us to decorate their bedroom in any way they would like, allowing them to flourish.
Outside at the front of the property there is a parking area for vehicles and to the rear of the property there is a garden with a lawn where children and young people can both play and relax.
