Dala House
Dala is a two bedded home in a rural village close to Dumfries. Dala provides care for two young people who require care and protection within a community-based home.
The home has good access to local resources as well as transport links across the United Kingdom. At our most recent inspection, the following feedback was given:
“Young people were mostly positive about their experience of Dala and both felt they had made real progress there, this included improved behaviour and self-control, education achievements and skills for independence.” (Care Inspection – Dec 2019)
The house has a fitted kitchen, a lounge, two single bedrooms for our young people, a sensory/chill room, a bathroom, two staff sleep rooms and an office room.
We have one en-suite and two single rooms for our young people which are welcoming and of a high standard. Each of the bedrooms is warm and bright and we encourage all those who come and live with us to bring their own personal possessions as to make their bedroom feel like their own.
Young people also receive a welcome pack which includes an information book about the service, which was made by some of our young people. Young People are also given money to buy posters and other possessions to personalise their bedrooms.
Outside the front of the property there is a parking area for four vehicles and to the rear of the property there is a very large garden, which is home to a variety of wildlife including rabbits and pheasants. We have an outdoor wood-built den at the end of the garden with a barbeque, which some of our staff and young people built together and is well used in the summer months. The shed is now a safe haven for rescued hens, which has proven to be therapeutic for our young people.
