St Teresa house is a solo placement in a residential area. We are based within 2 miles from the town centre with great transport links, health care services, schools, and local amenities.
We have good knowledge of and contact with local sports clubs and youth organisations. Our aim is to offer young people living at St. Teresa House a family environment where they can settle, relax, and find stability in their lives.
The home is deliberately a normal home in a normal street. We seek to normalise the experience of being in care, to reduce the difference in living arrangements between young people in our care and their peers. It is unusual to have a home that is planned for only one young person, however, this is necessary to meet the specific needs of the young person placed.
On entering the property there is a double fronted driveway and a large garden to the rear of the property, which is partially paved with some grass area and a shed for storage.
On the ground floor there is an entrance hallway and a lounge, which is bright and cosy with a large bay fronted window, and finally a kitchen/dining space with a utility area for washing facilities. The second floor has two bedrooms – one of the bedrooms is used by staff and doubles up as an office, and there is a small bathroom with both bath and shower available.
Each young person has their own bedroom to provide them with privacy, which they can decorate however they like, giving them an opportunity to really feel at home. The young people are encouraged to take responsibility for this space in order to maintain their privacy. We always aim to ensure that our house reflects that of family home where young people feel safe, relaxed and cared for.
There are several good schools in the area, as well as a local community gym and swimming pool. There is also a large cinema and bowling alley within a five-minute walk, plus restaurants and a good variety of nature walks. We are only a 15-minute drive from Knowsley Safari Park and Gulliver’s World, and an hour’s car journey from the main cities of Manchester and Liverpool.
The house is 10-minute walk from the main town centre, which has good shopping facilities and several large supermarkets. There is good access to local shops and amenities, with public transport within walking distance. Motorway access is only a short drive away.
