Pebbles Academy Dunfermline is a nurturing and aspirational learning community that delivers a bespoke, individualised curriculum combining academic, vocational and therapeutic pathways tailored to each learner. We understand that many of our young people have faced barriers to education, and our work begins with building safe, trusting relationships that enable re-engagement and meaningful progress.
The school has recently undergone significant renovation, now offering an enhanced range of high-quality learning environments including a life-skills kitchen, a dedicated music room with recording studio, a fully equipped gym, on-site astroturf, and modernised classrooms with updated interactive technology. These spaces provide opportunities for young people to explore interests, develop new skills and experience success in a variety of contexts.
Our model emphasises small-group learning, therapeutic parenting and the ADAPT learning programme, ensuring that education can take place beyond the traditional classroom setting when required. This flexible and relational approach allows us to meet young people where they are—supporting emotional regulation, building resilience and enabling them to achieve appropriate certification aligned to their strengths, needs and aspirations.
We are registered for both primary and secondary pupils, and we take great pride in the inclusive, trauma-informed environment we provide. Pebbles Academy Dunfermline is a place where young people rebuild confidence, strengthen relationships and regain a sense of belonging within education. Through a combination of consistent support, personalised planning and high expectations, we empower each learner to grow socially, emotionally and academically, preparing them for positive futures and successful next steps.

At Pebbles Academy Dunfermline, our curriculum is designed to be highly personalised, flexible and aspirational. Every young person follows an individual learning pathway shaped around their needs, interests, strengths and long-term ambitions. Learning takes place across a wide range of environments- in school, in the community, outdoors, online and through therapeutic and vocational experiences, allowing each learner to progress at a pace and in a way that feels safe, meaningful and motivating.
Our provision is centred around a Therapeutic Parenting model, where every interaction is rooted in understanding, safety and connection. Staff are extensively trained to recognise the impact of trauma and attachment on a young person’s development, and to respond with consistency, empathy and attuned communication.
We view behaviour as a form of communication. Rather than focusing on managing or containing behaviours, our staff work to understand the underlying needs being expressed. This approach supports effective safeguarding, reduces crisis responses and creates an environment where young people feel safe to regulate, reflect and build positive relationships.
Therapeutic approaches are embedded across learning and care: from day-to-day interactions to curriculum planning and targeted interventions. Depending on individual needs, this may include counselling, CBT-based strategies, creative and sensory therapies, outdoor learning, or relational mentoring. Our in-house Psychology team can provide additional support, guidance and clinical oversight to ensure approaches are appropriate and trauma-informed.
Therapeutic practice is not an add-on at Pebbles, it is the foundation of our entire model. By prioritising relationships and emotional safety, our therapeutic model enables young people to rebuild trust, develop confidence, engage more positively in learning and make meaningful progress academically, socially and emotionally.
Teaching approaches are underpinned by positive relationships and well considered interventions to support young people in their learning. Pebbles’ teaching team knows young people well and understands when they need additional support and encouragement.
